Freelance teaching vacancies

There are no current freelance vacancies.

We have around 12 expert freelance staff delivering our teaching sessions across London. Some of our freelancers have been with us for over 10 years and they are the life blood of our organisation, upholding our reputation and maintaining our standards. We are not currently looking for freelancers but opportunities come up from time to time. Ideally we look for qualified teachers in geography, history, archaeology and general KS2 teachers. However we do consider people with non school teaching experience and passionate people with other skills and specialities. We give full training. Positions are usually advertised on charity job websites and will also be posted here. Due to changes in data protection we cannot keep your CV on record but you can register your interest for any future vacancies by emailing where we will put you on a mailing list and contact you when positions arise.

Trustee vacancies

There are no current Trustee vacancies.

Thames Explorer Trust is overseen by 7 volunteer trustees each bringing their own area of expertise. We will advertise any trustee positions here.

We sometimes offer short term internships to committed people. Please contact us at to express your interest.

Student teacher observation

We are experts in river teaching and outdoor learning. If you are a PGCE student, NQT or from a similar training programme and wish to observe one of our sessions to improve your own practice please email us on using the subject heading Student Observation. We will do our best to accommodate you. You will need a current DBS certificate and we will also need to contact your course leader/school mentor.

We are always keen to hear from volunteers who have a passion for the Thames. If you have a skill you think we might be able to use and have some free time please email us on using the subject heading TET Volunteer.

Current volunteer opportunities:

Aquarium maintenance. We have three Thames fish tanks holding 800,  200 and 45 litres which contain fish and invertebrates from the Thames. The tanks run on a complex system of filters and pumps and were previously maintained by local 6th form school students. As they have now left we are looking for an individual or a group of people willing to take responsibility for its upkeep. We would be keen to hear from schools (we can train volunteers) or anyone with knowledge of fishtank systems. This is an unpaid position. If you think you might be able to help us please email using the subject heading TET Volunteer – Aquarium.
