Thames Explorer Trust is an innovative educational charity established 30 years ago. We aim to givepeople the chance to enjoy and get to know the Thames. To promote our aims we work withschools, families, communities and the general public running a range of learning programmes which cover ecology, history and heritage of the river.
Thames Explorer Trust employs two full-time members ofstaff, one part time and 10 freelancers. As part of long-term absence cover we are looking to recruit an Office Coordinator who will form a key part of our team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with working in a small office on varied tasks. Accuracy and a methodical approach are fundamental to the role as you will be dealing with school bookings, co-ordinating staff and room hire among a number of other tasks. A cheerful disposition and the ability to act on your own initiative is essential.
This is initially a 6 month position (reviewed after 3 months) with the possibility of extending to a year or beyond. You will be working from our office in Chiswick 8.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday although there may be some flexibility in both days and start/finish time.

Freelance teaching vacancies
Freelance teacher wanted
Pay: £117 per full day / £75 per half day
Location: West London
We are seeking to recruit an experienced freelance educator to lead indoor and outdoor geography activities for schools on the Thames in London. You will be mostly working with KS2 pupils with occasional KS3/KS4 work. Most of the work will take place in West London at Chiswick, Kew or Fulham. There may also be an opportunity for the right person to learn and deliver some of our other highly successful KS2 history and archaeology programs at other locations across London.
If you are qualified to teach geography up to KS4, are able to travel to west London and would welcome the chance to teach both indoor and outdoor sessions please get in touch. We are looking for people with an enthusiasm for the river environment and the ability to motivate and inspire young people. You will also need high energy levels and be happy teaching outside in all weathers! Part time vacancies
Bookkeeper. £120/day for 1 day per month.
We are looking to form close links with an experienced bookkeeper who is free for 1 day per month to help us keep on top of our accounts. This year we anticipate a turnover of around 160k across both restricted and unrestricted income. Our bookkeeping records are kept jointly on QuickBooks software (so you will need a working knowledge of this program) and on paper at our office in Chiswick, so you will need to be able to travel to west London. Student teacher observation
We are experts in river teaching and outdoor learning. If you are a PGCE student, NQT or from a similar training programme and wish to observe one of our sessions to improve your own practice please email us on email@example.com using the subject heading Student Observation. We will do our best to accommodate you. You will need a current DBS certificate and we will also need to contact your course leader/school mentor.

Current volunteer opportunities:
Aquarium maintenance. We have three Thames fish tanks holding 800, 200 and 45 litres which contain fish and invertebrates from the Thames. The tanks run on a complex system of filters and pumps and were previously maintained by local 6th form school students. As they have now left we are looking for an individual or a group of people willing to take responsibility for its upkeep. We would be keen to hear from schools (we can train volunteers) or anyone with knowledge of fishtank systems. This is an unpaid position.
