Ethical foreshore exploration
A chance to get onto the foreshore at Greenwich and discover archaeological ‘Treasures of the Thames’. Who knows what will be found-old smoking pipes, drain pipes, pottery, bones…there is lots of evidence of London’s past to discover.
Meeting point: We will be meeting by the large canon at the front of the Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre, 2 Cutty Sark Gardens, Old Royal Naval College, London SE10 9LW, where we will take a short walk to the stone steps leading to the foreshore. Note: the last few steps onto the foreshore can be slippery – please make good use of the handrail.
Paying. You do not need a Paypal account to pay for this event – you can pay be Visa Debit as well. To pay by Visa Debit (or Paypal) click on the Paypal button and look to the bottom of the next page underneath the Paypal log-in, and click pay by card. You can also pay by Paypal on this page by logging-in in the usual way.
Booking: Booking is essential and limited to 30 people. Cost is £10 per adult and £6 per child. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum age for children is 5 years). Maximum of 2 children per adult. In the event of the walk being cancelled due to low numbers we will notify you two weeks beforehand and issue you with a full refund. Unfortunately we cannot issue refunds for personal cancellations.
PLA license: Thames Explorer holds a foreshore license issued by the PLA which covers people within our group.
Clothing: Even though the sun may be shining please dress for the possibility of bad weather. Wear clothing that can get muddy and sensible footwear – no flip flops, opened toed sandles or high heels!
General guidance: Thames Explorer publish the “Thames H&S Foreshore Guideines”; your guide will advise you on safety before going onto the foreshore. Digging and scraping are forbidden, however we are guaranteed to find pipes, pottery and lots of evidence uncovered by the twice daily tide. In order to protect the historic nature of the foreshore we request that you take only photographs and memories with you.
A note to our regular participants: walks on different days will start and finish at different times depending on the tide and weather conditions. Check above for the times of this walk.
