Port of London Outreach
This programme provides an opportunity to learn about the history and geography of the River Thames, its connection to global trade routes and the key role the Port of London Authority plays in looking after the river, its wildlife and those who use it.
One of our teachers will visit your school to work with 2 or 3 classes during the day. We use 5.5 x 2.2m floor mats which are best suited to presenting in school halls where a screen, projector and computer are available. In addition to the learning sessions, we can also offer a 10-minute presentation as part of your school assembly. The presentation illustrates how, on a global scale, all nations are interdependent and the role the River Thames plays in this.
The workshops include hands-on activities around our Port of London world floor map and Thames Estuary floor mat. Pupils explore how the river shaped London’s development and how it connects the city to global trade, supporting KS2 history and geography learning. Team activities and critical thinking challenges also help pupils investigate Thames wildlife and consider how human activity affects the river.
