Come on a learning voyage with Thames Explorer Trust

We offer a KS3 programme aboard the Golden Salamander, a cruising riverboat which provides a floating classroom for students to engage in an enquiry about the changing settlements along the river’s banks, between Putney Bridge and Richmond Lock. This memorable session covers National Curriculum objectives in both Geography and History, with a focus on mapwork skills.

Using a series of Ordinance Survey maps from different historic periods between 1805 and the present day, students take part in a real-world case study considering the changing nature of this stretch of the tidal river over the past 200 years.

This four-hour programme is for two class groups of up to 30 pupils, based at Thames Explorer’s headquarters in Pier House, Chiswick. Sessions usually start at 10.30am and end at 2.30pm, the content of the sessions can be adapted to meet the needs of your pupils.
